A Discussion With The Best Directors Of 2008 By Peter Sciretta/Jan. 5, 2009 5:40 pm EST The Hollywood Reporter recently held a roundtable discussion with the six of this year’s Best Director hopefuls: Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon), Gus Van Sant (Milk), Ed Zwick (Definace), Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler), Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino). Actress Brittany Murphy Dies At 32 By David Chen/Dec. 20, 2009 11:34 am EST TMZ is reporting that actress Brittany Murphy died this morning after going into full cardiac arrest. She was 32 years old. [Update: KTLA in Los Angeles has confirmed Murphy’s death with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.] Murphy rose to fame when she appeared in Amy Heckerling’s Clueless way back in 1995. More recently, she’s appeared in films such as Sin City, Little Black Book, and Uptown Girls....

Box Office: $4.5M-$5.5M Million For Iron Man’s Opening Night By Steve Mason/May 2, 2008 12:09 pm EST Paramount’s Iron Man is, by all accounts, off to a tremendous start, although it is well under the opening night eve totals of $8M+ for last year’s Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Transformers. SnagFilms Is (Kind Of) Like Hulu For Documentaries, Launches Today By David Chen/July 17, 2008 6:33 pm EST It’s a hard knock life for us documentary lovers out there. First of all, with a few rare exceptions (e.g. March of the Penguins, An Inconvenient Truth, etc.) most documentaries don’t play at the local multiplex, making them difficult to access if you live in a remote area. Furthermore, even if you do find a theater playing your documentary of choice, it’s usually hard to convince friends to go with you and fork over $10 to see a series of talking heads for 90 minutes (although I could tell you a good story about how I convinced a woman to see The Fog of War with me while it was still in theaters....
