Fox’s 27 Dresses, starring Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy, Knocked Up), has far exceeded industry expectations by “walking down the aisle” with $8.65M on opening day, which should translate to a $26M 3-day and a 4-day long weekend of approximately $30.7M. That will make this tepidly-reviewed romantic comedy the all-time 7th-biggest January opening and the all-time #4 MLK weekend 4-day opening....

Bradley Cooper Replaces Shia LaBeouf In Dark Fields By Devindra Hardawar/Nov. 5, 2009 11:19 pm EST The Hangover star Bradley Cooper is now set to replace Shia LaBeouf in Neil Burger’s (The Illusionist) upcoming thriller, Dark Fields. The film is an adaptation of the Alan Glynn book of the same name, and will feature a script by eclectic screenwriter, Leslie Dixon (The Thomas Crowne Affair, Mrs. Doubtfire, Hairspray). The film is among many projects Cooper has signed on for post-Hangover (which is strange, because I still know the guy best as Sydney Bristow’s best friend on Alias)....

Announced in 2007, we’ve heard nothing about this project in a while. This week I came across a new television commercial directed by Ratner, featuring Hefner. Oh yeah, and a dozen Playboy Playmates too. Of course, it’s just another one of those hack parodies of the Tom Cruise / Risky Business scene....

Geekalerts found an awesome R2-D2 compact refrigerator which was created in 2002 as a promotional prize for Attack of the Clones. Apparently only 1,000 of these guys were produced for the 7-11 promotion, so it isn’t the easiest item to find. ToyEast is selling one for a whopping $1070....

David Fincher To Produce And Co-Direct Animated Heavy Metal Film By Hunter Stephenson/March 14, 2008 1:54 pm EST Director David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac) is set to co-direct, oversee and produce an animated feature film based on Heavy Metal Magazine, the adult fantasy and sci-fi publication founded in the ’70s that’s still in print today. Both begin with solemn white words on black referencing the evils of Adolf Hitler, but only the former manages to build up the palpable suspense and the grave importance of its character(s)’s mission. That is until a jarring tonal shift occurs at the fifty second mark, right when Defiance’s imagery should have intensified, stopped suddenly and left the audience wanting more....

Distro Deals: A Single Man And Valhalla Rising Bought At TIFF; Soderbergh’s Knockout To Lionsgate By Russ Fischer/Sept. 15, 2009 4:30 pm EST The other major TIFF deal went down before Ford’s. It was made by IFC to distribute Nicolas Winding Refn’s Viking pic Valhalla Rising, which stars Mads Mikkelsen as a warrior called One-Eye. IndieWire reports that a bidding war also occurred for Refn’s movie, which IFC president Jonathan Sehring calls “one of the most visceral and exciting films we’ve seen in a long time....

Last month the Hollywood trade papers broke the news that Mickey Rourke was in talks to play the villain Whiplash in Iron Man 2. Then earlier this week Rourke said that he’s “not doing Iron Man 2”. Could it be that Marvel didn’t offer him enough money? In January it was reported that Marvel’s starting offer to Rourke was $250,000, which is extremely low by any account....
