Brad Caleb Kane Writing View Master Movie

Brad Caleb Kane Writing View-Master Movie? By Peter Sciretta/July 2, 2009 10:56 pm EST It seems like everyweel one of the Hollywood studios announces a new board game or toy movie adaptation that pushes the limits on believability. Some nights while I’m writing up news, I wonder if I’m actually a minor character in one of those Hollywood satires that paints Hollywood executives as bumbling idiots, trying to suck onto any idea that might have audience recognition and franchise potential....

Comparing The Takings Of Pelham 123

Comparing The Takings Of Pelham 123 By David Chen/June 12, 2009 5:27 am EST As a fan of Joseph Sargent’s original film, I thought it might be interesting to compare his version with Scott’s new version, as I think some of the choices Scott made are pretty fascinating. If you haven’t seen the original, I’d suggest you watch before you read this, as I think it’s a great film that still holds up today....

How Hollywood Markets Movies

How Hollywood Markets Movies By Peter Sciretta/Jan. 20, 2009 8:17 pm EST David Chen sent me a link to an interesting article written by Tad Friend in the New Yorker, which takes an in depth look at exactly how films are marketed to the masses. Here is a short excerpt: Modern campaigns have three acts: a year or more before the film debuts, you introduce it with ninety-second teaser trailers and viral Internet “leaks” of gossip or early footage, in preparation for the main trailer, which appears four months before the release; five weeks before the film opens, you start saturating with a “flight” of thirty-second TV spots; and, at the end, you remind with fifteen-second spots, newspaper ads, and billboards....

J J Abrams Developing New Spy Tv Series For Nbc

J.J. Abrams Developing New Spy TV Series For NBC By Devindra Hardawar/Oct. 1, 2009 8:03 pm EST It seems that CBS now remains the only big network not to receive the J.J. Abrams magic touch. Today we’ve learned that a new spy project co-written by Abrams has found a home at NBC, after a prolonged bidding war between NBC, ABC, and CBS. The currently unnamed spy drama concerns a husband and wife spy team—and before you even think it, I figure the show will differ from Mr....

Michael Bay S Transforming Aircraft Carrier

Michael Bay’s Transforming Aircraft Carrier? By Peter Sciretta/June 13, 2007 4:06 am EST In an interview with IGN, Transformers director Michael Bay revealed one of his ideas for Transformers that was too expensive for the big screen: “I had an amazing aircraft-carrier idea that was just too expensive, so maybe another movie… that’ll get the fans talking!” A transforming aircraft carrier transformer? Can you imagine how huge that giant robot would have been?...

Official Crank 2 Trailer Unleashed

Official Crank 2 Trailer Unleashed By Peter Sciretta/Jan. 16, 2009 12:15 am EST After the uncensored red teaser trailer leaked onto the interwebs last week, Lionsgate rushed to get an official trailer for Crank 2 online. And the trailer hit the web on Thursday night on IGN. The new trailer is a lot more traditional, and gives you a better idea of exactly how insane the sequel might be. I’m still waiting for the man in suit action that was hinted at from the gigantic head photos from a while back....

Orson Welles To Narrate 3D Holiday Film

Orson Welles To Narrate 3D Holiday Film By Russ Fischer/March 26, 2010 2:02 pm EST How appropriate that a studio called Drac might be the latest group to suck some life out of Orson Welles. The effects company has done good work on films like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but I’m not sure I can get behind this new effort. Christmas Tails will be a 3D live-action/CG hybrid film narrated by Orson Welles....

Owen Wilson To Play Marmaduke

Owen Wilson To Play Marmaduke By Devindra Hardawar/Nov. 3, 2009 1:00 am EST The cast also includes Lee Pace, Judy Greere, and William H. Macy as the humans, and “Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans, and Marlon Wayans” as the dogs. IMDB also lists Ron Perlman, Amanda Seyfried, and Jeremy Piven as dog voices, but perhaps they’ve dropped off. At this point I’m just worried what other classic comic characters film studios will set in their sights to adapt into horrific CG/live action monstrosities....

Saw Vi Director To Helm Paranormal Activity 2

Saw VI Director To Helm Paranormal Activity 2 By Russ Fischer/Jan. 18, 2010 10:45 pm EST With Paranormal Activity, the comparisons to The Blair Witch Project films just keep on coming. Like Blair Witch, 2009’s Little Film That Could was made on a shoestring budget and cleverly marketed into mega-success. Now, Paramount has hired a writer and director for the film currently called Paranormal Activity 2. Just as when Artisan made the Blair Witch sequel, the studio is keeping original Paranormal creators Jason Blum and Oren Peli on the payroll as producers, but is giving the reigns to different talent....

Standalone Grindhouse Movie Posters

Standalone Grindhouse Movie Posters By Peter Sciretta/April 2, 2007 5:07 am EST Our friends at FilmIck have found some single bill posters for Grindhouse’s Planet Terror and Death Proof. The posters, which can be seen above, were created for the separate foreign release of the movies. Left click on the images for a higher resolution version. I find it very strange that the poster for Planet Terror promises the “coming attractions from Quentin Tarantino” when the Pulp Fiction director didn’t create any of the faux trailer included in Grindhouse (or at least as far as I’m aware)....
