How Hollywood Markets Movies By Peter Sciretta/Jan. 20, 2009 8:17 pm EST David Chen sent me a link to an interesting article written by Tad Friend in the New Yorker, which takes an in depth look at exactly how films are marketed to the masses. Here is a short excerpt: Modern campaigns have three acts: a year or more before the film debuts, you introduce it with ninety-second teaser trailers and viral Internet “leaks” of gossip or early footage, in preparation for the main trailer, which appears four months before the release; five weeks before the film opens, you start saturating with a “flight” of thirty-second TV spots; and, at the end, you remind with fifteen-second spots, newspaper ads, and billboards....

Pixar Confirms Monsters Inc Sequel? Despite what Brad Bird said on stage at WonderCon two years ago, Pixar is now in the sequel business. Cars 2, Toy Story 3, and now Monsters Inc 2. According to Jim Hill, buyers who attended these limited preview sessions were sworn to secrecy by Disney officials, but several have confirmed that Pete Docter will be following up Up with a sequel to Monsters, Inc....

Rapunzel Unbraided Video Clip LEAKED By Peter Sciretta/March 2, 2007 12:37 am EST A clip has emerged on the video-sharing website YouTube.com, claiming to be a few seconds from Walt Disney’s 2009 animated release Rapunzel Unbraided. The clip was shown at the Siggraph where someone was able to capture it with their digital camera. The movie is described as a traditional, character-driven fairy tale that will speak to a modern audience, with a different new style of its own....

The posters, which can be seen above, were created for the separate foreign release of the movies. Left click on the images for a higher resolution version. I find it very strange that the poster for Planet Terror promises the “coming attractions from Quentin Tarantino” when the Pulp Fiction director didn’t create any of the faux trailer included in Grindhouse (or at least as far as I’m aware)....

The Incredible Hulk Life-Sized Statue By Peter Sciretta/May 2, 2008 2:44 am EST /Film Reader Nader spotted The Incredible Hulk at his local multiplex: “I (jokingly) asked the manager if “i could have it” and he (seriously) replied telling me “No, they have to send it back to the studio when they’re done with it”. I went up to feel it and I’m pretty sure it is made of fiberglass. Either way, it seemed extremely heavy and pretty legit....
