Mischa Glenny’s McMafia To Be Moviefied By Brendon Connelly/April 14, 2009 10:07 am EST Mischa Glenny’s nonfiction account of globalised crime, McMafia, has been optioned by Working Title. It seems likely that the film will take on a format not unlike Traffic, Fast Food Nation or perhaps Syriana, this time rooted in organized crime. Maybe we’ll end up with something like Gomorrah, but on a broader scale. The book’s central thesis is that the Soviet bloc was a breeding ground for the individuals and requisite abilities that have given rise, since the fall of the Iron Curtain, to an international network of crime organizations....

Must Watch: Michel Gondry’s Sweded Be Kind Rewind Movie Trailer By Peter Sciretta/Jan. 26, 2008 2:42 pm EST In Michel Gondry’s new film Be Kind Rewind, Jack Black and Mos Def must rerecord classic movies to replace broken vhs tapes. The process is described in the film as sweding, or “re-making something from scratch using whatever you can get your hands on.” At the Apple Store tour, Gondry was showing off a Be Kind Rewind movie trailer which he sweded all by himself, which means he played all the characters, constructed all the props and locations....

New Bee Movie Movie Poster By Peter Sciretta/Oct. 5, 2007 2:01 pm EST Dreamworks has sent us the new poster for Jerry Seinfeld’s Bee Movie. The poster features the Seinfeld-voiced character Barry B. Benson flying through the air, attached to a tennis ball. This is from one of the scenes we screened at a special yellow carpet preview last month. However, if you don’t know the context of this moment, I don’t think it comes off as “funny”....

They were working in preparation for Wong Kar-Wai’s upcoming biography of Ip Man, the renowned martial artist who famously trained the teenage Bruce Lee. While we don’t know if this injury will yet delay the September start date for the production, we do know that Leung is continuing training his kicks, and just leaving his arm out of use....
