Interview: Grindhouse Star Rose McGowan By Peter Sciretta/April 2, 2007 5:44 am EST On March 25th, we had the opportunity to talk with most of the stars of Grindhouse. We will be posting the interviews leading up until the film’s release on April 6th 2007. We sat down with Rose McGowan (Scream, Jawbreaker) to talk about her role as the gun legged stripper in Robert Rodriguez’ Planet Terror. McGowan’s character was also featured in Tarantino’s Death Proof....
Is It Illegal To Watch Bootlegged Movies Online? By Brendon Connelly/Nov. 24, 2009 4:00 am EST You probably understand the illegality, not to mention unethical nature, of posting a pirated movie onto the internet – but do you understand the legal ramifications of simply watching a film that’s already been uploaded to the web? Much of my day is spent with teenagers, students at the school where I teach, and the majority of them simply don’t worry about sourcing their media through piracy....
Johnny Depp Directing A Documentary About Keith Richards By Russ Fischer/Feb. 3, 2010 7:45 am EST If someone were going to make a documentary about Kieth Richards you’d expect them to at least talk to Johnny Depp. The actor has openly idolized Richards, and based some of his Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow on the Rolling Stones guitarist, going so far as to have Richards appear in the third film as Sparrow’s father....
Laika Scraps Computer Animated Feature Plans By Peter Sciretta/Sept. 18, 2009 10:42 pm EST Animation Studio Laika, best known for the 3D stop-motion animated feature adaptation of Coraline, laid off 63 employees in its computer animation department. Laika was originally setup as an animation studio which would produce both stop-motion and computer animated feature films. But Laika has decided that they would rather specialize in stop-motion animated projects. Before Coraline, Henry Selick directed a computer animated short film for Laika titled Moongirl, which won the Short Film Special Jury prize at the Ottawa Film Festival....

As you know, you can follow us on twitter at twitter.com/slashfilm. The poster is very, very… yellow. Check out the full sized poster after the jump. In this high-octane sequel, hitman Chev Chelios (Statham) launches himself on an electrifying chase through Los Angeles in pursuit of the Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart....
McG To Direct Me And My Monster By Peter Sciretta/June 11, 2007 1:03 am EST According to BD, Three-letter-named Music video turned film driector McG has signed on to direct Me and My Monster for Sony. I’m pretty sure the film is not connected to the popular 19080’s children’s toy My Pet Monster. The film is about a young boy who has a friendship with a bizarre creature that changes the course of his life as he becomes an adult....
Michael Bay Wants To Film Small Pulp Fiction-Type Of Movie Before Transformers 3 By Peter Sciretta/April 17, 2009 12:29 pm EST Action director Michael Bay tells MTV that he would like to take a year off before making Transformers 3 and that he “might do a small movie in-between.” But the definition of small is relative, and Bay’s normal is gigantic. The untitled dark comedy project is based on a true story, which Bay describes as “a ‘Pulp Fiction’-type of movie....
New Image From Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Shia Versus Blanchett. By Hunter Stephenson/April 18, 2008 4:45 pm EST Worth a laugh. A new crop of grainy images have surfaced at IESB for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Their origin is unknown at this time. We’ve included the best one above. Memorable movie scenes where a guy punches out a lady on screen are few and far, with Christoper McQuarrie’s The Way of the Gun easily in the top 3....
Nicolas Winding Refn To Direct Modern Western Only God Forgives And A Gore Verbinksi Heist Film By Hunter Stephenson/Sept. 8, 2009 1:45 pm EST The momentum behind writer/director Nicolas Winding Refn—a talent of significant interest for many of our staff—is culminating into numerous “man’s man”-sounding projects. The Dane auteur behind the Pusher Trilogy and this winter’s rollicking Bronson remains attached to direct Keanu Reeves in Jeckyll, a big-budget take on Dr....
Nigerian Information Minister Bans District 9 By Russ Fischer/Sept. 21, 2009 12:19 pm EST This shouldn’t really come as a surprise, seeing as one of the loudest criticisms of District 9 was that it portrayed Nigerians unfairly by depicting them as cannibalistic gangsters. Now the Nigerian Information Minister has requested that all Nigerian cinemas stop showing the film, confiscate all copies and potentially remove offending scenes, and has written to Sony asking for an ‘unconditional apology’....
Nottingham Is Robin Hood, And Not In The Way We Were Thinking By Brendon Connelly/Feb. 17, 2009 1:58 pm EST Fans of Ridley Scott should be sure and stick with this post to the very end for a couple of shiny bonuses. First up though, some news about his imminent trip to Sherwood Forest. My favorite wheel on the Scott Free bicycle has been working on – or, some might say, working over – the proposed Nottingham for some months now....
Question Of The Week: The Most Inconsiderate Moviegoer You’ve Ever Encountered By David Chen/Dec. 13, 2008 7:33 am EST The Question of the Week is a (hopefully) weekly question for slashfilm.com readers that emerges from a discussion on the /Filmcast: After Dark. Feel free to post your answers to the question in the comments below. The best answers will be read on the air each week. On this week’s After Dark episode, I discussed my hatred of a film critic who used a laptop throughout an entire movie screening....
Really Bad Posters For Really Bad Movies: Untraceable By Peter Sciretta/Dec. 18, 2007 3:42 am EST I haven’t seen Untraceable, but I have seen the trailer, and I feel like I’ve seen probably two minutes too much for this film. Yes, I am prejudging this flick, but at least I’m disclosing this fact upfront. IMPA has two new posters for the Diane Lane/Colin Hanks FBI Hacking Thriller. You got to love it when the theatrical advertising is just as bad as the movie, and this seems to be a prime example....

S. Darko Movie Trailer By Peter Sciretta/Feb. 21, 2009 2:02 pm EST Silver Nitrate Films has finally released the full trailer for the Donnie Darko direct-to-dvd sequel S. Darko on the film’s official website. And yes, it looks just as craptastic as you might expect. A lot of cheap special effects mixed with horribly written dialogue. Check it out after the jump. [flv:http://bitcast-a.bitgravity.com/slashfilm/trailers/sDarkotrailer1.flv 470 260] The official plot synopsis follows:...
Script For Aronofsky’s Black Swan Is “Very Intriguing…With A Quiet Slow Burn” By Russ Fischer/Aug. 20, 2009 9:32 am EST There’s a review of Mark Heyman’s script for Black Swan, soon to be a Darren Aronofsky film starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, over at ScriptShadow. There’s a lot of detail there and some good analysis, but the piece opens with a huge bit of salesmanship that will likely get at least half our readers interested in the film really, really fast: “in this movie, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis have sex…And not just nice sweet innocent sex either....
Script For William Shatner’s Excised Star Trek Cameo Revealed By Russ Fischer/Nov. 23, 2009 2:20 pm EST EDIT: When I originally ran this an hour ago, I completely forgot that we’d basically presented this before, a point which the first comments were quick to point out. (It’s not the end of the world, guys, really.) But there is new content here — this is the first time we’ve been able to link to the actual scripted scene, rather than just a description....
Second Photo: Heath Ledger As The Joker FAKE By Peter Sciretta/April 22, 2007 8:11 pm EST Update: It appears that Ain’t It Cool News was tricked. The photo they posted earlier tonight, seen above, turns out to be fake. Theresa from HeathLedgerCentral sent us the following photo from Ledger’s last movie Candy. The Joker still above appears to be a doctored version of the production photo below. The original story follows: We were a little disappointed with the first paparazzi photo of Heath Ledger in his Joker get-up....
