Fox And Hugh Jackman To Create Musical Pt Barnum Biopic

By Russ Fischer/Aug. 4, 2009 12:00 am EST Sex and the City writer Jenny Lind is to script, and the project sounds like it will reinforce the fictions about Barnum (think the erroneously attributed ’there’s a sucker born every minute’ persona) rather than really exploring his actual character. Someone with only a passing interest or familiarity in musicals might think that’s just right for the mode. But the great thing about a musical done right is that songs and staging can cut right to the center of character, so this doesn’t have to be just a showy gloss on an American icon....

Free Movies Bram Stoker S Dracula Is On Hulu

Free Movies: Bram Stoker’s Dracula Is On Hulu By Russ Fischer/Oct. 28, 2009 11:37 am EST Free is the best way to see some movies. Take the Coppola-directed Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The film was a disappointment on many levels — it is miscast, skewed quite far from the book (contrary to the title) and oddly stagebound. And yet it has a few bright shining ideas and performances, and some killer production design....

Hear The First Song From The Where The Wild Things Are Soundtrack

Hear The First Song From The Where The Wild Things Are Soundtrack By Russ Fischer/Aug. 24, 2009 11:35 am EST The first track from the soundtrack to Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are is available for streaming at MySpace. The song is credited to Karen O and the Kids, and in this case the name is quite literal. Karen O, from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, worked on the music with a host of different artists, but this track features a raw childrens choir as one of the primary ‘voices’....

Inception Teaser Trailer Will Be Inglourious On Avatar Day By Peter Sciretta/Aug. 10, 2009 2:19 pm EST According to Warner Bros’ exhibitor website, the first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception will play in front of some screenings of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, beginning on August 21st. Nolan has a history of releasing very short teaser trailers, that don’t reveal much. Some might remember the teaser trailer for The Dark Knight, which was released in July two years ago, which featured not much more than the Batman logo flying at the camera with voiceover....

International Despicable Me Teaser Trailer

International Despicable Me Teaser Trailer By Peter Sciretta/Feb. 15, 2010 1:51 am EST The last teaser trailer for Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s upcoming computer animated film Despicable Me had a lot of people scratching their heads. Who are these little yellow guys with glasses, gloves and blue overalls, and what do they have to do with a film about an evil villain who is plotting to steal the moon? One of the many things I learned during my visit to Illumination Entertainment’s Santa Monica-based offices is that the moo cow trailer was originally supposed to be the initial teaser trailer, which might have made a lot more sense....

John Wayne Leads List Of 10 Best Final Performances In Acting History By Steve Mason/Jan. 13, 2009 6:55 am EST The difficult decision that athletes and actors have in common is when to quit. In baseball, Hall of Famer Willie Mayes lumbered through the outfield for the Mets at Shea Stadium well past his prime, and there was something sad at about watching legendary lefty Steve Carlton as a long reliever for the Minnesota Twins....

John Williams Scoring Tintin Secret Of The Unicorn

John Williams Scoring Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn By Devindra Hardawar/Feb. 20, 2009 10:16 am EST Not that this is any great surprise, but word comes from Upcoming Film Scores that frequent Steven Spielberg collaborator John Williams will be doing the score for The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. Confirmation comes from Williams’ agent. I’m not sure if this implies that he’ll be doing the score for the other two films in the trilogy, although I suppose for consistency that makes the most sense....

Movie Trailer Robogeisha

Movie Trailer: RoboGeisha By Hunter Stephenson/July 1, 2009 9:00 pm EST So, this trailer for RoboGeisha is NSFW, upper-level ridiculous, and almost necessitates a /Film After Dark sister-site. We should tell you now that it features fake skyscraper blood, pervy voiceover, and entertaining death by: tempura shrimp, “futuristic” lactating, and bootie swords. And lots of tawdry geisha action with carnage on top. Due for international release this fall, the film is the exploitative brainchild of Noboru Iguchiand Yoshihiro Nishimura, the sadistic director and special effects madman who brought the world Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police....
